Introduction
This small booklet is designed to elaborate on the range rules to allow new and old members to shoot and move around the range buildings while maintaining a high level of safety and security.
Welcome
Upon arrival to the range either ring the bell to gain access, or if the door is open simply enter and make your presence known to the person in charge.
Make sure you sign both the range entry book and the green fees sheet. Don’t forget to total your expenditure at the end of the evening including targets/ammunition/subs/comp fees where applicable. Good practice suggests that you leave your range card lined up on the desk in the lounge so that we know who is on the range and what firearms are in use.
CCTV is used to monitor the firing points and the gun room, this is a useful tool to see how busy the range is and to monitor activity.
Club firearms
In the safe there are several different types of firearms and ammunition available to club members, from air pistols to gallery rifles to be used on the premises. Please ask the person in charge of the range to retrieve anything from the safe, no-one else should be in the safe at any time. Ammunition is not to be removed from the premises unless it has been added to your FAC. Ammunition that is not used up should be returned to the safe with your name on it assuming it has been paid for.
Gun room
The gun room is designed for cleaning firearms and is the assembly point for the range. From here you can see through the window onto the firing points and make your presence known to the range officer. One should only enter the range when the range officer opens the range door and asks you to set up on the firing point. Magazines should not be loaded in the gun room and all firearms should be proved clear with open bolts/cylinders etc.
Indoor range
The firing points can be used for 10yard (air only), 20 and 25 yard prone. If using your own ammunition please ensure it is within the range limit of muzzle velocity 1410 feet per second and muzzle energy 475 foot pounds.
Care must be taken to ensure that no person is down the range when firearms are being handled. Follow the commands that the range officer gives to ensure that you only enter/leave the range with a firearm when both the target area has been cleared and all firearms are proved clear. When all firearms are clear please stand back from the firing point to allow targets to be changed. Free hearing and eye protection is available at the club and the rules state this must be used to prevent hearing damage or eye injuries to the firer.
All brass cases are to be collected after firing and disposed of in the correct bins.
Outdoor range
You may only shoot on this range once the required score has been shot on the indoor range, this is because the target area on the outdoor range is much smaller and we cannot permit any rounds to hit anywhere bar the backstop.
.22LR prone is the only firing style allowed on the outdoor range.
Don’t forget to fly the red flag, and make sure the gate is shut to prevent pedestrians from walking in front of the firing point.
Emergencies
There is a phone by the entrance door in the lounge, please use this to call the required emergency service, the location details are on the board by the phone.
